In years past the party was on a random weekend in December, however a new tradition will be kicked off in 2008. Starting in 2008 the Christmas party will always be held the second weekend in December. By setting this as a standard date it will help with planning during the very busy Holiday season.
When: December 13th, 2008 @ TBA
Where: TBA
On December 15th the annual Christmas party was held at Redline Bar in Birmingham. As expected the party was yet again a success in every aspect. We had 8 host that help out with the party which covered the cost of obtaining the sound needs for the band and the band's travel expenses. In addition to the hosts and his guest/spouse, the party included about 75+ invitees in attendance. With this outstanding turnout, and the generosity of those not in attendance, we were able to give our six adopted Children a very Merry Christmas. The gifts were delivered on Dec. 18th to the organization the families were adopted through. The organizer could not express enough how much she appreciated our group adopting six children. She was truly amazed by our enormous gratitude and willingness to help.
While the primary focus of the party is to help those less fortunate, the social aspect of the party is very important. Entertainment this year was generously donated to us by the band "Deep Woods Funk". As many of you know Deep Woods Funk played in Troy several years ago and is actually comprised of several Eta Phi Alums. They certainly have not lost the talent as they rocked the party all night long. We cannot thank the band enough for taking the time out of their busy schedules to make the trip to play for us.
This party has remained vital in keeping everyone in touch after we all leave Troy and move on with our lives. With the turnout and feedback we received on Saturday night, it is certain the party will remain alive and well for years to come. For all that have never attended or were unable to attend the Christmas party, we hope you will try to make it a part of your Holiday season in years to come.
Thank you to all the 2007 hosts without your help this party would not be possible: John Calhoun, Daniel Clem, Greg "Scooter" Crutcher, Jay Curry, Clint DeCoux, Jason Fill, Brent Harrison, Dendy Moseley, Al Renfroe
On Saturday, Dec 18th the Annual Eta Phi alumni Christmas Party was held at the Fraternity house. This Christmas party began back in 1996 when several Eta Phi brothers decided to rent a karaoke machine and a room at the Brundidge Country Club to celebrate the season. While the party no doubt provided hours of entertainment to all that attended, the purpose was much greater than that. There was no cost to attend, but each guest was asked to bring a present which would go to a family in need of the gifts which we so often take for granted each Christmas season. This party has evolved through the years including changes in host, location and entertainment, but the primary purpose of providing for the less fortunate has stayed the same.
The 2006 party, like each one before it, was a success in all aspects. We had 14 host help out with the party which included bearing the cost of the band, providing finger food and decorating the house. In addition to the host and his spouse/guest, the party included an additional 60+ invitees in attendance. With this turnout, the gifts received provided a very Merry Christmas to the two families selected this year. The gifts were delivered on December 22th and those in attendance all attested to the sheer joy and gratitude these families expressed.
While the primary intention of this party is to help those in need, having a good time is certainly high on the priority list. This year we hired an all time favorite "The House Rockers" for the entertainment portion of the party. While many were skeptical, they did not disappoint. Everyone had a great time on the dance floor and of course some of Eta Phi's own were on stage during the breaks.
For nearly 10 years now, this party has remained vital in keeping everyone in touch after we all leave Troy and move on with our lives. With the turnout we had Saturday night, this tradition certainly will not be ending anytime soon. For all those who have never attended or were unable to attend, we hope that you will try to make it next year. Christmas is a busy time of year and is tough with so many family functions, etc. but you will find it to be a Saturday night well worth your time if you are able to drop in.
Thank you to all the 2006 hosts: Brian Goodson, Ben Tomlin, John Calhoun, John Napper, Jerry Cameron, Clint DeCoux, Nate Kennedy, Brent Harrison, Greg "Scooter" Crutcher, Daniel Clem, Bo Boyd, Dendy Moseley, Wes Wilson, Jason Fill
